Ford Aquatics Training Groups
The Ford Aquatics team is comprised of several different Training Groups. Each group listed below has unique objectives and training programs based on ability. Here, you can read about each level and establish goals to prepare yourself for the next level of training.

Ford Fusion
The Fusion group is designed for young athletes that have graduated from swim lessons and can perform the basics of freestyle and backstroke. This group focuses on developing all four strokes in a small group setting. Graduation from the Fusion group readies young athletes for the Explorer group in the future.
Entry level criteria in this group is swimming unassisted 1 lap freestyle and 1 lap backstroke. Young athletes must be able to float on their backs for safety purposes. Swimmer must be ready to have a level of enthusiasm to participate in a 30 minute practice.
Practice Schedule
There are four 30 minute practices offered each week.

Athletes are highly encouraged to attend meets

Ford Explorer
The Explorer group is designed for young athletes that can perform the basics of all four strokes. This group focuses on advancing technique in all four strokes, as well as the fundamentals such as starts and turns that are needed for further progression in the sport. This group aims to ready swimmers for the Raptor and Mustang groups in the future.
Entry level criteria for this group is swimming unassisted 2 laps freestyle, 2 laps backstroke, 1 lap butterfly, and 1 lap breaststroke. Swimmer must be ready to bring enthusiasm to a 45 minute practice each day.
Practice Schedule
There are four 45 minute practices per week

Meet attendance is strongly encouraged
Training Ratio: 90% Technique, 10% Work

Ford Raptor
The Raptor group is designed for young athletes who have excelled in the Explorer group or who have previous swimming experience in a competitive setting. Athletes will focus on building on fundamental technique in all four strokes, and further knowledge of strokes and turns. Raptor swimmers also participate in dry-land exercises in addition to their in-water practices. Prospective athletes must be evaluated for placement in this group.
Entry level criteria for this group is understanding all four strokes, flip turns, and open turns and must have the ability to swim a 100 IM (individual medley) and 100 freestyle with flipturns.
Practice Schedule
There are five 60 minute practices and 2 30 minute dryland sessions. Athletes should maintain 75% attendance.
Expectations
Athletes are expected to compete in every qualified meet on the team schedule and travel to their highest qualified season-ending championship meet.
Training Ratio: 25% Work, 75% Technique

Ford Maverick
The Maverick group is designed for 9-12 year old athletes who have excelled in the Raptor group or who meet the competitive experience of the group (coaches discretion). Athletes will focus on continuing to build on fundamental technique in all four strokes, turns, learn how to train and prepare for the Mustang group. Maverick swimmers also participate in dry-land exercises in addition to their in-water practices. Prospective athletes must be evaluated for placement in this group.
Entry level criteria for this group is competitive experience at a regionals and state level, and ability to complete 90 minute practices while beginning to train for 100s/200s of stroke.
Practice Schedule
There are five 90 minute practices and 2 30 minute dryland sessions. Athletes should maintain 75% attendance.
Expectations
Athletes are expected to compete in every qualified meet on the team schedule and travel to their highest qualified season-ending championship meet.
Training Ratio: 50% Work, 50% Technique

Ford Mustang
The Mustang group is our highest performing and most dedicated group of athletes ages 11-14. Swimmers in this group should be aiming to qualify for state in multiple events, have specific long-term goals in the sport, and embrace their role as leaders in the Age Group program.
Athletes learn how to train and prepare for senior level swimming in this group. Placement in this group is for swimmers who should be able to participate in 90-120 minute practices while training for a full meet event line up.
Practice Schedule
There are 5 practices offered a week and athletes are expected to maintain 80% attendance. Depending on age, there will be optional AM workouts for this group offering 8 practices. Athletes will also be expected to complete an additional dryland program 2x a week.
Expectations
Athletes are expected to compete in every qualified meet on the team schedule and travel to their highest qualified season-ending championship meet. Athletes in this group should be prepared to make the jump to Edge or Expedition directly from this group.
Training Ratio: 50-75% Work, 25-50% Technique

Ford Edge
The Edge group is our intermediate training group for 13 & up athletes on the cusp of achieving Sectional and state qualifying times and 13 & up athletes looking to improve their performance and fitness at the club level.
Athletes aim to compete at the State and Sectional level. Placement in this group is for swimmers 13 & over who should be able to swim all four strokes and have competitive swim team experience.
Practice Schedule
There are 8 practices offered a week and athletes are expected to maintain 80% attendance. 2 morning workouts are recommended. Athletes will also be expected to complete an additional dryland program.
Expectations
Athletes are expected to compete in every qualified meet on the team schedule and travel to their highest qualified season-ending championship meet. Athletes must show a desire to make improvement and performance a priority in their lives. All Edge swimmers must take responsibility for their own progress and hold themselves to a higher standard. Athletes in this program are taking the steps towards higher level competition in USA Swimming while looking to excel during their HS swim season.
Training Ratio: 80% Work, 20% Technique

Ford Expedition
The Expedition group is our highest level program and is constructed for athletes aspiring to swim and compete at the national level. Athletes in this program understand and demonstrate the dedication and commitment necessary to achieve their goals and show the willingness to put swimming at the top of their priority list. All members of Expedition are also expected to attend all team meets and act with the utmost integrity and leadership every day.
Athletes seek to achieve and compete at the highest levels of USA Swimming, from Sectionals to Nationals to Olympic Trials. Placement in this group is strictly at the Head Coach's discretion. The Head Coach will consider practice attendance, focus at practice, performance and team chemistry as a guide for placement. Athletes are expected to compete in every qualified meet on the team schedule and travel to their highest qualified season-ending championship meet. Athletes in this group are training for the US Olympic Trials, Nationals, Junior Nationals and Sectional Meets.
Training Ratio: 80% Work, 20% Technique

Masters Group
Our Masters group is for anyone 18 and older who enjoys the sport of swimming whether it be competitively or for fitness. We welcome all abilites and create a flexible and positive environment to allow our swimmers to stay in shape and improve upon their skills. Must become a member of US Masters Swimming to be a part of this group.
Expectations
We expect all of our members to be respectul of their teammates, coaches, and the facility and bring a positive attitude to each workout they attend. No attendance requirements. Competitions are encouraged but not mandatory.
